Through concerts, festivals, showcases, and community events, our Shows & Production team creates professional performance experiences that inspire students and audiences alike. Position Summary YMU is seeking reliable and skilled Audio Engineers to join our on-call production team. This freelance, event-based role is ideal for engineers with live sound experience who are comfortable setting up, operating, and striking audio systems for concerts, student showcases, festivals, and community events. Engineers will work alongside stage managers, production leads, and other technicians to deliver consistent, professional audio for performers, students, and audiences. Responsibilities Set up, patch, test, and strike PA systems, monitors, microphones, DI boxes, wireless systems, consoles, and related audio equipment Operate front-of-house and/or monitor mixes during rehearsals, sound checks, and live events Troubleshoot signal flow, RF issues, power/audio problems, and stage connectivity Coordinate with stage managers, musicians, guest artists, and production staff to execute smooth audio operations Maintain organized cable management, labeling, and equipment handling practices Follow safety procedures and venue-specific protocols Assist with load-in/load-out and general production tasks when needed Requirements Available for flexible, event-based scheduling (mostly evenings and weekends) Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs Strong teamwork, communication, and professionalism in fast-paced live event environments Ability to take direction, adapt quickly, and remain calm during show operations Familiarity with live sound terminology, signal flow, and standard concert audio practices Dependable, punctual, and prepared to work at scheduled call times Preferred Experience (not required) 1+ years of live sound, concert, theater, worship, broadcast, or corporate AV audio experience Experience with digital mixing consoles, stageboxes, and monitor workflows Basic RF coordination and wireless microphone troubleshooting Experience working with student performers, community events, or nonprofit productions Why Join YMU?
