DESCRIPTION
Purpose of Position:
While working cooperatively with the Pastor, Parish Director, parish leaders and other staff members to provide for an efficient, safe and effective pastoral environment in keeping with the mission of Pax Christi, the purpose of this position is to develop effective communication tools for members by producing the quarterly magazine, offering an engaging online presence through the website and social media, and publishing other quality materials.
Representative Responsibilities:
The Communications Director plans, organizes, creates, and implements effective communications strategies for Pax Christi Catholic Community, helping staff and ministry leaders convey their vision and priorities to the right audiences.
Specific responsibilities include:
Oversee the marketing and communication of the church's brand across all media, ensuring an accurate, creative, and consistent tone, look, voice, and delivery. Unify and align communications across the parish by partnering with staff and ministries, meeting with them to understand their goals, and creating communications plans that mobilize their specific audiences to engage. Cultivate, lead, and manage a team of communications staff and ministry volunteers. Create and oversee all promotional and marketing materials produced on behalf of Pax Christi, ensuring high-quality, high-impact communications for both internal and external audiences. Seek out stories of engagement within the parish and find creative ways to share them through video, interviews, the magazine, social media, and other channels. Keep communication requests on time and on budget and develop and manage a master communication plan and calendar. Manage the digital asset library and graphic support subscriptions. Work with print vendors to ensure quality materials within budget. Build strong public relations with outside organizations, the general public, and grant recipients. Stay current on creative, communication, and technological trends and tools, identifying opportunities to communicate more effectively with the parish and the broader community.
Digital Strategy & Web Presence:
Lead the creation, development, and ongoing management of Pax Christi's website (www.paxchristi.com), working closely with the host platform to ensure a modern, secure, and accessible site. Maintain an effective digital presence across all channels, ensuring content accuracy, current information, search optimization, livestream, video, and adoption of new technology. Manage the website's giving and form creation platform, partnering with the Parish Financial Manager to ensure secure processing and timely updates.
Content Production & Publishing:
Lead editorial planning, design, and layout for the parish magazine, including the annual content calendar, ongoing content development meetings, theme development, writer coordination, and cover and page design. Schedule writers, design and lay out content for the weekly bulletin. Develop and manage the video production calendar, coordinating requests and working with staff and volunteers to produce high-quality videos for promotion, engagement stories, and announcements. Produce and manage Pax Pod, the parish podcast, including planning episodes, coordinating guests and recording, and editing and publishing across platforms. Audience Engagement & Marketing Manage ongoing social media strategy and messaging, building and growing audiences across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Spotify. Coordinate and deploy the weekly eNEWS, event marketing campaigns, and ministry newsletters; manage the email marketing contact database; and train staff on the email platform. Manage content for the parish's outdoor electronic sign, keeping messaging current, relevant, and aligned with parish priorities and events. Brand & Creative Direction Develop and manage the parish style guide, ensuring consistent brand, tone, voice, and visual identity across all media. Serve as the creative lead for the parish and its ministries, designing high-quality promotional and informational materials including banners, booklets, brochures, flyers, infographics, logos, newsletters, posters, stationery, and signage.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Proficient in content management systems and digital communication platforms. Experience with audio production and podcast editing. Proven ability to manage multiple projects from start to finish in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups. Action-oriented, creative, and self-directed, with a commitment to continuous improvement and constructive feedback.
General Accountabilities:
Employment in and by Pax Christi is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Other:
Successful completion of a background check is required along with Virtus training. Ability to lift 20 pounds, using proper techniques, along with the ability to use equipment necessary for the position.
