Retail - About the Role A leading national general merchandise retailer is seeking an experienced Art Director with a strong background in Apparel & Accessories (A&A) to join their in-house creative team through our staffing partnership. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a recognized retail brand known for elevated style, trend-forward design, and compelling visual storytelling across customer touchpoints. This is a hybrid role, requiring in-person collaboration 2 days per week. Minnesota-based candidates are preferred. Job Description In this role, you will support a range of creative initiatives, from adaptive brand work to higher-level concept development, with a focus on A&A style brand photography and retail marketing. You will help bring brand stories to life by partnering with cross-functional creative teams and shaping visual direction across seasonal campaigns, photography, and retail experiences. The ideal candidate brings a strong eye for elevated style, exceptional visual storytelling abilities, and a portfolio demonstrating current A&A photography and creative work.
Key Responsibilities:
Support a range of art direction projects, from adaptive brand work to conceptual creative development, with a focus on Apparel & Accessories brand photography and retail marketing. Partner with cross-functional teams to develop creative solutions that align with brand strategy and business objectives. Contribute across projects of varying complexity and scope based on business and team priorities. Help shape creative concepts and visual direction for photography, seasonal campaigns, and retail marketing initiatives. Present creative work and articulate design rationale to stakeholders and creative leadership. Collaborate closely with photographers, stylists, designers, producers, marketers, and other creative partners. Manage multiple assignments simultaneously across brands and business categories while maintaining high creative standards. Qualifications Required Qualifications Proven Art Director experience supporting retail Apparel & Accessories brands. Strong portfolio demonstrating current Apparel & Accessories creative work, including photography art direction and visual storytelling. Experience developing and presenting creative concepts that align with brand strategy and seasonal business objectives. Demonstrated ability to translate brand direction into elevated, style-forward creative solutions. Strong aesthetic judgment with a keen eye for fashion, styling, composition, and visual trends. Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners in a fast-paced creative environment. Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to confidently present creative work and influence stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously. Must be able to work onsite 2 days per week.
Portfolio Requirement:
Candidates must provide an Art Direction portfolio that includes current Apparel & Accessories work, photography art direction examples, and brand storytelling/campaign work. Preferred Qualifications Portfolio includes both photography art direction and concept development work. Experience supporting retail marketing, brand campaigns, and store experience initiatives. Concept development examples included in portfolio. Minnesota-based candidates preferred.
