Job Description:
Sponsored by Florida Sea Grant, this part-time, temporary position runs from July to August 2026. It is intended to assist the UF/IFAS Extension Florida Sea Grant Agent in Pasco County with the distribution of Scallop Sorter devices during Pasco's Scalloping Season. This individual will be expected to work outdoors, weekend mornings between work dates (see exact dates below), for 6 hours per day during the Pasco Scallop Season, totaling 60 hours of work. The position requires a reliable mode of transportation and a willingness to drive to work locations. Work locations will include (but are not limited to) the Anclote River Park Boat Ramp, Nick's Park Boat Ramp, and Robert J Strickland Memorial Park Boat Ramp. Duties will include talking with boaters, asking survey questions, distributing scallop sorters, and recording information. This is a fully in-person position. Work dates are subject to change with weather and regulatory impacts to the scallop season. The position requires long hours outdoors in the Florida sun, standing near boat ramps, and engaging with the public. This position reports to Megan Moore, UF/IFAS Extension Pasco County, Florida Sea Grant Agent Expected Work dates (subject to change): July 10, 11, 12, 18, 25, 26 and August 1, 2, 15, 16.
Key Responsibilities:
Meet with and talk to boaters at Pasco Boat ramps during scalloping season Collect information from boaters and provide them with scallop sorters Compile responses and data and provide them to the project lead Communicate the purpose of the scallop sorters to community members Speak with boaters about scalloping best practices using the sorting tool
Expected Salary:
$18/hr

Must have a reliable mode of transport to work locations at Pasco boat ramps Strong skills and confidence speaking with community members Ability to record written responses on paper or using online surveys Ability to stand in the sun and heat during work hours
Preferred:
Experience scalloping or knowledge of bay scallops Special Instructions to
