Job Description

Shop Coordinator - Sidekick Coffee & Books •To be considered for this position, please email your resume, cover letter, and three professional references to sidekickcoffeeandbooks@gmail.com. Due to the amount of applications we receive, only potential interviewees will be contacted.•Sidekick Coffee & Books is looking for a passionate, organized, and energetic individual to join our team as a Shop Coordinator . This part-time to full-time position will play a key role in overseeing daily operations, managing our team, and helping the owner expand the book side of the business while maintaining the exceptional quality of our café. Key Responsibilities Operations:
Create and manage the staff schedule, ensuring coverage for time off and last-minute absences. Prioritize daily tasks and set the plan for a smooth and efficient day. Complete inventory for coffee, books, food, and supplies, and place weekly orders. Oversee the completion of daily checklists and pitch in as needed. Use Toast POS for transactions and communicate with Toast support for any issues. Provide constructive feedback to team members when necessary. Perform light cleaning duties, including dishes and bathrooms, and ensure that the café remains spotless. Meet regularly with the owner to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
Bookselling:
Must be a passionate and voracious reader, eager to review advanced reading copies (ARCs), share reviews on social media, and engage with customers about books. Willingness to work weekends, some evenings, and represent Sidekick at off-site events. A strong knowledge of book genres, organization, and familiarity with Libro.fm and Bookshop.org. Interact with customers, make personalized book recommendations, and share your love for reading - this is key! Ability to lift boxes of books (up to 40 lbs) and help organize our inventory. Café: Learn and maintain up-to-date knowledge of our menu offerings. Train as a barista and help onboard new baristas. Keep the café running smoothly during all hours, including high-demand times like football Saturdays. Provide light bartending services (wine and cocktails).
Customer Service:
Bring a positive, upbeat attitude every day, contributing to a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Display empathy and patience, especially when engaging with customers. Be comfortable working with kids and families in a lively, community-oriented environment.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist in planning and executing special events such as Independent Bookstore Day, author signings, summer camps, book fairs, KidLit Pizzazz Festival, Romance Festival, book clubs, story times, and more. Address issues promptly and bring them to the owner's attention as needed. Maintain high staff morale and ensure a collaborative, motivated team. Desired Qualifications Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively. Proven ability to handle a high volume of emails, scheduling, and calendars. Experience managing a team to ensure efficient task completion and communication. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Edelweiss, Toast, Gmail, or a willingness to learn. Flexible schedule to accommodate varying hours. 1-3 years of retail or cafe management experience is preferred. Calm under pressure and capable of handling stressful situations with composure. This position will work closely with the owners, who are seeking a book and coffee-loving individual (s) to help run Sidekick Coffee & Books .
