Job Description
Standardbred Sales Prep Internship Position Overview The Sales Preparation Internship provides hands-on experience preparing Standardbred yearlings for fall public auctions. Interns work with our farm staff and industry professionals to learn the daily management, conditioning, and presentation required to prepare young horses for the sales market. This internship combines practical horsemanship with classroom-style instruction, giving interns a deeper understanding of bloodstock evaluation, yearling development, and the role of sales preparation within the Standardbred industry. Responsibilities Grooming, bathing, and maintaining presentation of yearlings Teaching yearlings ground manners Learning proper presentation techniques for yearlings Stall cleaning, feeding, watering, and barn organization Assisting with veterinary and farrier care when appropriate Supporting general farm operations and other duties as assigned Learning Opportunities Standardbred bloodlines and pedigree evaluation Conformation and physical development of yearlings Nutrition and conditioning programs for yearlings Sales preparation strategies used by leading breeding farms The structure and economics of the Standardbred sales market Requirements Background or strong interest in the equine industry Ability to safely handle young and sometimes spirited horses Strong work ethic and willingness to work long days during peak sales prep season Ability to lift 50 lbs and remain active on your feet for extended periods Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment Positive attitude and eagerness to learn
Program Structure Internship Duration:
July-November 5 days/week (40hours)- Working on-farm 1 day/week
- In educational workshop 1 day/week
