docx Market Duty Officer (Fixed Term) Job description The City of Lincoln Council is looking for a reliable and customer‑focused Market Duty Officer to support the day‑to‑day running of Cornhill Market. This part‑time, 18‑hour role involves opening and closing the market, ensuring the safety and security of the site, supporting traders, responding to issues on the ground and helping with stall set‑ups, cleaning and general market operations. You'll need to be confident working with the public, able to work independently and as part of a small team and comfortable with physical tasks and working in all weathers. If you're professional, practical and enjoy a hands‑on role in a busy environment, we'd love to hear from you. Key responsibilities
  • Supporting the safe, efficient and effective daily operation of Cornhill Market.
  • Opening and closing the market as a designated key holder.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of the market and its users.
  • Supporting traders, monitoring compliance and responding to on‑site issues.
  • Assisting with the set‑up and pack‑down of market stalls and events.
  • Maintaining cleanliness, managing waste and reporting maintenance issues.
  • Responding to emergency call‑outs when required.
  • Providing a professional, helpful presence for traders, visitors and members of the public. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
  • The ability to work confidently both independently and as part of a small team.
  • Strong communication skills with traders and members of the public.
  • A calm and assertive approach when dealing with issues or challenging situations.
  • Good decision‑making skills, including assessing risks and taking appropriate action.
  • Reliability, professionalism and a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • The physical ability to lift, move equipment and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • The ability to maintain accurate daily records and present a positive image of the Council.
