Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Torah Reader to lead our congregation in the sacred reading of the Torah. This vital role involves preparing and performing Torah portions with precision, reverence, and enthusiasm, fostering a meaningful spiritual experience for our community. The Torah Reader will serve as a spiritual guide, ensuring that each reading is conducted with accuracy and respect for tradition, while engaging congregants in the profound teachings of the Torah. Duties Prepare weekly Torah portions by studying and practicing the specific cantillation (trope) and pronunciation to ensure accurate delivery. Lead the congregation in the public reading of the Torah during services, maintaining proper pacing and vocal clarity. Collaborate with clergy and service leaders to coordinate readings and special ceremonies. Maintain a respectful and focused environment during readings, encouraging active participation from congregants. Uphold tradition by adhering to liturgical customs, including proper handling of sacred texts and use of traditional melodies. Requirements Deep knowledge of Torah cantillation (trope) and proficiency in reading Hebrew accurately. Experience with Jewish liturgical practices and familiarity with synagogue service protocols. Mechanical knowledge or comfort with handling delicate ritual objects such as Torah scrolls. Ability to work with hand tools for minor adjustments or maintenance of ritual items if necessary. Strong organizational skills to prepare weekly portions and coordinate service flow. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge, a respectful attitude towards tradition, and excellent communication skills to inspire community participation.

$100.00 - $200.00 per day
