Job Description

Farmed & Forged Market Assistant Job Description Seasonal Position | May-September 2026 About Farmed & Forged Farmed & Forged is a producers-only market focused on local food, small businesses, and community access. Our markets operate in Hammond, Michigan City, and La Porte, and prioritize strong vendor relationships, smooth operations, and equitable food access. Position Summary The Market Assistant (MA) works closely with our team in all aspects of the Farmed & Forged Producers Only Market (FF). This is a hands-on, outdoor, fast-paced role. The MA is expected to work the market from open to close as scheduled and maintain regular communication with the team throughout the week.
Pay :
Starts at $13.00/hr
Schedule & Time Commitment Season:
May 23 - September 28, 2026
Pre-Season Preparation:
Onboarding and training begin late April 2026.
In-Season Hours:
Range between 5-25 hours per week. This is a seasonal, temporary position; hours are not guaranteed. Market Schedule Hammond (Thursdays): Team arrival 12:30p through teardown (approx. 8:00p). Michigan City (Saturdays): Team arrival 5:00a through teardown (approx. 1:00p). La Porte (Sundays): Team arrival 7:00a through teardown (approx. 2:00p). Meetings Attendance at team trainings will be required Core Responsibilities Market Operations & Event Work Execute market setup and teardown, including marking spaces and setting road barricades. Support the Collective (TC) booth and assist with moving picnic tables or other equipment. Provide professional vendor and customer support by answering questions and helping with booth setup. Complete shopper counts and assist with documenting incident reports as needed. Capture photos or assist the marketing team with social media during events. Communication & Documentation Maintain regular communication with the team via text, phone, and email. Communicate pertinent info to vendors, nonprofits, and shoppers. Help document market data, including tracking SNAP purchases and updating spreadsheets. Keep the team up-to-date on all market occurrences. SNAP Program Support Assist with the administration of the SNAP match program. Help issue shopper vouchers and vendor receipts while maintaining accurate documentation.
Required Qualifications Language:
Fluency in both Spanish and English is preferred for our Hammond location.
Availability:
Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Traits:
Self-motivated, positive attitude, and excellent communication skills.
Reliability:
Reliable transportation and a passion for local small businesses. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. Comfortable working outdoors in hot, humid, or unpredictable weather.
