Role Overview:
The Engineer
- Transport IV will support large-scale Long Distance (LD) / Ultra Long Haul (ULH) transport network transformation and decommissioning programs across US domestic networks.
This role is responsible for designing, building, migrating, and decommissioning optical transport infrastructure as part of a strategic Site Decommissioning (DCOM) and Zero-Fill Program, focused on cost optimization and network modernization. The engineer will create Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs), manage transport builds, and execute circuit grooming and migration activities across OTN Mesh, WDM, SONET/SDH-based transport systems.
Project Overview Program:
Site Decommissioning (DCOM) /
Zero-Fill Initiative Objective:
- Exit legacy leased XO network sites
- Reduce operational and lease costs
- Build new ULH transport at strategic go-to locations
- Migrate traffic and decommission unused circuits and infrastructure Key Responsibilities
- Create and manage Capacity Creation Requests (CCR) for transport builds
- Engineer LD/ULH transport network solutions
- Identify existing transport circuits and infrastructure at sites
- Plan and execute: Circuit grooming (cut plans), Traffic migration, Network re-routing
- Decommission unused circuits and legacy equipment
- Perform physical shutdown and equipment removal after zero traffic validation
- Work with vendors (especially Nokia) for transport planning and execution
- Coordinate with grooming teams, field teams, and third-party vendors
- Identify dependencies (space, power, fiber, diversity impacts)
- Resolve engineering blockers and network performance issues
- Participate in project meetings and technical reviews
- Support multi-site, multi-year transport transformation programs Must-Have Skills (Critical Requirements) Core Technical Requirements

- Hands-on expertise in: o Long Distance (LD) / Ultra Long Haul (ULH) networks o OTN Mesh / DWDM / WDM systems o
SONET / SDH
transport systems
- Deep experience with: o Nokia DNA (Digital Network Administrator)
NON-NEGOTIABLE
o Nokia / Infinera LD transport platforms (DTN-X / DTNX) - Experience in circuit grooming, traffic migration, and transport engineering Vendor & Platform Experience
- Nokia (mandatory)
- Infinera (mandatory)
- Ciena (preferred)
- Fujitsu (preferred)
