Every few days you will wake to an exciting new port of call. It's the ultimate way to work and travel all in one. The Assistant Editor's primary responsibility is the coordination, production and quality control of all written onboard published communication.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Editorial Operations Research material for onboard publications including upcoming events. Brainstorm ideas to keep content interesting. Assist the Editor with printing of all onboard publications. Deliver all printed materials to the relevant areas. Assist with the creation of flyers, expedition materials and theatre movie poster. Liaise with Program Department to ensure all information for lecturers, exhibitions, local shows, Resident events and Program events is complete and up-to-date, and scheduled in Outlook in time for layout production Complete a daily in-depth proofread with the Editor. Help organize and maintain proper hard copy archive of all printed material. Initiate project to back-up, duplicate on external hard drive and DVD, collate and organize all electronic files (in InDesign and PDF) of all publications Maintain an up-to-date bank of all official Company images. Assist to introduce Corporate approved guidelines in regard to graphic standards, implemented in InDesign and MS Office as a long-term project. Assist in the basic daily maintenance on printers and other editing equipment. Assist in cost control procedures by minimizing waste and breakage. Assist in creating flyers, wine tasting mats and prints daily special menus for F&B department General Exceed Resident and Guest expectations in every aspect of personalized service in accordance with Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) standards Actively support the goals and objectives for the department and adhere to all new policies and company initiatives as assigned Participate in the buddy program. Actively participate in Company training as required. Maintain accurate Time & Attendance Records for each time period worked. Ensure all areas are maintained in accordance with Public Health, Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety & Environmental regulations; adhering to Company Policies and procedures as appropriate to the position; execute safety duties as per the Emergency Plan and Station Bill Assist with the set-up, decoration and breakdown of venues for events organized by the Program Division when required Assist with Ship tours, Zodiac landings, Marina days, Expeditions, and other activities when required
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Able to read, write and speak fluently in English
BA/BS 3-4
years Degree in Communication, Media or publishing (or foreign equivalent) preferred Degree in Graphic design (or foreign equivalent) preferred Proofreading and editing level 4 Diploma required (can be completed onboard) Minimum of one year's relevant experience on a luxury cruise ship, private country club or similar, luxury hotel or resort One additional language (French German, Italian) is preferred Advanced computer skills to include Word, Excel and Outlook and In Design essential Experience in the following positions preferred: Sub-Editor, Layout Specialist, Copywriter or Feature Writer, Printer Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Graphic Design essential Previous editing and writing experience in a high-volume Strong administrative and organizational skills
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
Ability to work seven (7) days a week for an extended period, including day or night, weekends and holidays. While performing the essential functions of this job, all Crew are required to stand, walk long distances on the Ship and may include the repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down the stairs and lifting up to 23 kilograms. All Team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
