Overall Responsibilities:

Receive, prepare and input sports information within the newspaper and online guidelines and deadlines.

Specific Responsibilities:

Receive and prepare sports information as story and/or Scoreboard (agate) copy. Develop content and provide updates for online products and social media. Maintain accurate records of standings and scoring leaders. Edit and design the Scoreboard (agate) page, following established deadlines, style and standards as assigned. Write minor sports round-ups. Attend, report and write about sporting events, performance within the professional standards as assigned. Adhere to TH policies and journalistic ethics. Maintain a "customer comes first" environment with pro-active commitment to internal and external customer service. Suggest and initiate new methods or procedures to enhance operation of department or newspaper. Actively participates in the Great Game of Business.

Successful sports writer qualifications:

basic understanding of most sports, familiar with technology (mobile devices, common computer programs, Internet), excellent command of the English language, propensity for accuracy, ability to meet deadlines, Experience with page design software, editing, headline writing and interviewing desired.
