Full-Time Overview Nelson Media Company is seeking an experienced and driven Managing Editor to lead all editorial operations for The Osage Oracle . This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for covering news and sports while managing all content for the newspaper across print, digital, and social platforms. Our coverage spans Mitchell County, but the primary focus is Osage — city, county, and school. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of strong, hyper-local journalism and can consistently deliver it at a high level. Key Responsibilities Editorial Leadership & Content Control Oversee and manage all content for The Osage Oracle Plan and execute weekly editions from start to finish Approve all stories before publication (print and digital) Ensure all content meets AP style, accuracy, and company standards Maintain a strict hyper-local focus Reporting (News & Sports) Serve as the lead reporter covering: City of Osage (government, council, community) Mitchell County (board of supervisors, major issues) Osage Community School District Cover local sports including game stories, previews, and features Conduct strong interviews and produce quote-driven stories Digital-First Publishing Publish stories to the website and Facebook immediately upon completion Write short, engaging social media posts to drive readership Support growth of digital audience and subscriptions Production Oversight Manage deadlines and ensure timely weekly publication Coordinate content flow and prioritize front-page stories Work with design to ensure accurate and high-quality final product Community Coverage Build strong relationships within Osage and Mitchell County Identify and pursue meaningful local stories Be present and engaged in the community Qualifications Experience in the newspaper industry required Prior editorial leadership experience preferred Strong writing and editing skills with knowledge of AP style Experience covering local government, schools, and sports Ability to manage deadlines and produce consistent weekly output Strong interviewing and storytelling ability Self-motivated and highly organized What We're Looking For A leader who takes ownership of the newspaper Someone who values real, local journalism A professional who can both report and manage content at a high level How to Apply Please email your resume, samples, and a brief introduction to: publisher@theosageoracle.com
