Overview The Marshall Independent is seeking a Sports Editor to lead our sports coverage with energy and a keen eye for detail. In this role, you will be responsible for curating compelling sports stories, managing content quality, and engaging our audience across multiple platforms. Your expertise will help elevate our sports journalism to new heights, inspiring fans and informing communities with lively, accurate, and engaging content. Duties Develop and oversee a comprehensive sports content strategy that aligns with audience interests and platform goals Write, edit, and proofread articles, features, game recaps, and opinion pieces using AP style guidelines to ensure clarity and consistency Coordinate photography to capture key moments during sporting events, including editing visual content for publication Manage social media channels by creating engaging posts, sharing breaking news, and fostering community interaction through social media management tools Conduct thorough research and fact-checking to ensure accuracy of all sports reporting Maintain editorial calendars and meet deadlines consistently while ensuring content remains lively, accurate, and engaging Experience Proven experience in sports journalism or editing with a strong portfolio of published work demonstrating excellent writing skills and storytelling ability Proficiency in AP style for clear and professional journalism standards Skilled in photography Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and interview sources confidently Experience managing social media platforms to grow audience engagement and brand presence Knowledge of research methods for sports statistics, history, and current events to support accurate reporting Join us as a Sports Editor where your energetic approach will drive captivating content that energizes our community!
