Job Description
Managing Editor (Part-Time) — Saturday ReviewSaturday Review is seeking a thoughtful, energetic, and well-organized Managing Editor to help guide both our online and print editorial operations.
This is a part-time position ideal for an editor with experience working on literary, cultural, intellectual, or public affairs publications who is interested in helping shape a serious and engaging magazine with a distinguished legacy.
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience editing an online and/or print journal, magazine, or similar publicationPossess strong editorial judgment and organizational skillsBe familiar with the history, mission, and general editorial sensibility of Saturday ReviewBe comfortable working with writers and helping develop ideas into publishable piecesHave the ability to identify, recruit, and cultivate contributorsBe able to coordinate editorial schedules and assist in managing publication workflowWork collaboratively with leadership on editorial direction and strategyExperience in journalism, magazine publishing, literary publishing, cultural criticism, public affairs, or related fields is preferred.
This role may include:
Editing essays, articles, interviews, and reviewsSoliciting and managing contributorsAssisting with print and digital production schedulesHelping expand the magazine's network of writers and readersContributing ideas for themes, features, and editorial initiativesSaturday Review's publisher is Dr. Milton Grin. The founding editor is Jamie Metzl, and the executive editor is Dr. Mark Maslan.
We are especially interested in candidates who have a sincere interest in shaping public discourse, informing society, and advancing thoughtful journalism and cultural commentary. The ideal applicant will be dedicated to the mission and legacy of Saturday Review and enthusiastic about helping build its future.
