Job Description

ABOUT US
International Business Times (ibtimes.com) is a global digital media company covering business, finance, technology and world affairs. We provide high-impact news coverage through a traditional Western values perspective. We are currently in an active growth phase and seeking a sharp editorial leader to build and run a high-performing newsroom.
THE ROLE
We're looking for an experienced Managing Editor to lead our editorial team and own the quality, judgment, and output of everything we publish. You'll build and coach a team of editors and reporters, set and enforce editorial standards, and work closely with the Audience Growth team to make sure strong journalism reaches the widest possible audience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Newsroom & Team Leadership:
Recruit, coach, and manage a team of editors and reporters, aligning daily output with brand objectives and traffic KPIs in a fast-paced digital environment.
Editorial Standards:
Refine and enforce strict editorial standards, ensuring all content aligns with IBT's voice, accuracy guidelines, and perspective.
News Judgment & Coverage Decisions:
Exercise editorial judgment on story selection, coverage pivots, and what gets published.
AI-Enabled Workflow:
Integrate AI tools to optimize editorial workflows (drafting, editing, production) and scale output without sacrificing editorial integrity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with the Audience Growth team to ensure editorial priorities and growth strategy are aligned to maximize reach and increase retention.
Audience & Traffic:
Own newsroom traffic goals, utilizing audience and trends data to guide daily story selection, headline optimization, and coverage pivots that scale audience reach.
REQUIREMENTS
Editorial Leadership:
At least 2 years of experience directly managing an editorial team and overseeing a high-volume publishing calendar (more may be preferred depending on team size).
Strong News Judgment:
Sharp editorial instincts with the ability to spot and elevate stories that will resonate globally.
Topical Expertise :
Strong background in business, finance, macro-economics, tech, or global affairs.
Data Literacy :
Working knowledge of analytics tools (GA4, Chartbeat, etc.) and a clear understanding of how to use data to inform editorial decisions.
Tech Savvy:
Fluency with AI tools in a journalism context to drive editorial efficiency.
Communication:
Exceptional written and verbal skills and the ability to lead teams in a collaborative style across multiple locations/time zones.
NICE TO HAVE
Content Strategy:
Experience shaping content strategy — balancing timely news, in-depth analysis, evergreen pieces, and franchise content across a publishing calendar.
SEO :
Advanced knowledge of SEO-driven editorial strategy and keyword research.
Global Newsroom :
Experience with managing multi-site or global newsrooms.
WHAT WE OFFER
Strategic Impact:
The opportunity to help shape the editorial direction and newsroom culture of a global media brand.
Dynamic Culture:
A collaborative, mission-driven environment in an active scaling phase.
COMPENSATION
$10,000 USD per month ($120,000 USD per year) + Benefits.
