About Us Hola Cultura, a nonprofit online newsroom that publishes arts and lifestyle news and investigative reporting in English and Spanish, has an immediate opening on our summer reporting team in Boston, Massachusetts. Hola Cultura is a proud winner of an Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for Best News Documentary! Your Role We are looking for an early career journalist to play a key role in our summer 2026 news coverage in East Boston. Working closely with our hybrid reporting team, senior staff and editorial fellows, you will participate in all aspects of our Boston coverage, including conducting story research and interviews, writing and editing, managing a team, social media and content creation, and other operational tasks. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented, curious and creative reporter/editor with at least a year of journalistic experience and an interest in covering Boston's Latine community to produce stories that go unreported by other local news outlets. Primary Responsibilities Researching, reporting, writing and editing, as assigned Assist with brainstorming and story development Lead and mentor less experienced reporters Develop and maintain relationships with sources Contribute to social media strategies and platforms Assist with video storytelling with an emphasis on vertical video Assist with podcast production Other tasks, as assigned Qualifications A college degree in Journalism or a related field Experience in journalism or nonprofit organizational storytelling Demonstrated reporting and storytelling skills as evidenced by your work samples Excellent writing skills and news judgement A commitment to accuracy and journalist ethics Ability to work independently and in a group Skilled in video editing, reel production and social copy Can prioritize and organize multiple assignments to meet deadlines Thrives in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of AP Style Cultural competency required Fluency in Spanish a plus Podcasting experience a plus Pay & Schedule The Assistant Editor is a part-time contract position that will combine remote work with in-person reporting assignments and team meetings in East Boston, Massachusetts. The position will pay $25-$30 an hour, depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. We are looking for someone who can work 15 to 25 hours a week starting in early July on an initial six-week contract that could lead to a permanent part-time position depending on performance and funding.
