Job Description

Overview In nine years, we've built a team that's stayed together, grown together, and does work we're proud to put our name on. We're not replacing anyone. We're adding someone who takes us to the next level. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Lead Designer to spearhead our creative vision and elevate our design projects across multiple disciplines. A little about us Abovo is a creative design and marketing agency in downtown Fargo. We build brands, websites, campaigns, packaging, social content, print, the whole picture, for clients we actually believe in. Most of them treat us like part of their team. Which means we have to show up that way. We're small on purpose. Close-knit by choice. And we take real pride in the work we put out. Our name comes from a Latin phrase, ab ovo usque ad mala , "from the egg to the apple." Beginning until end. That's how we think about the work, and it's how we think about the people we bring onto this team too. We're not hiring to fill a seat. We're hiring someone who wants to build something. What this role actually looks like You'll be the creative anchor here. That means setting the direction, not just following it. You'll work alongside our existing designers, our account managers, and directly with clients. You'll be the person in the room who can hear a client describe what they want, understand what they actually need, and translate all of it into work that's sharp, intentional, and done well. Day to day, that looks something like: Setting creative direction across projects, owning the vision, not just executing someone else's Reviewing and elevating work alongside our other designer Collaborating with account managers to think big picture, get ahead of what's coming, and flag things before they become problems Helping present ideas to clients with confidence and the context to back them up Sweating the details while never losing sight of the whole Staying current on tools, trends, and what "good" actually looks like right now Who we're looking for (qualifications) You've got real experience, the kind with a portfolio to back it up. You've led projects before, owned outcomes, and you know the difference between work that's done and work that's actually finished. You're proactive. You don't need to be told what needs attention. You see it, you say something, you handle it. You think in systems and details at the same time. The kerning matters. So does whether the whole campaign makes sense for the client. You communicate well with clients, with teammates, in a meeting, in writing. You make whatever team you're on better just by being in it. We'll do the same for you! On the technical side, we'd expect: Expert-level Adobe Creative Suite A strong eye for branding, typography, and layout across print and digital WordPress comfort is a plus Video, motion, or web design experience adds to your story We'd genuinely love it, though it's not required, if you also brought: Some account or project management experience, or have worked closely alongside it A background in photography The details
