Renowned for its bespoke, made‑to‑order creations, the company partners closely with designers and architects to create and deliver exceptional custom rugs and carpets. We are seeking a talented Textile Designer to join our growing design team in Stamford, Connecticut. This is an opportunity for a creative thinker with a passion for interiors, pattern, color, texture, and materiality to help shape the next generation of custom floorcovering designs. If you're excited by the idea of transforming a designer's vision into a one-of-a-kind woven masterpiece, we'd love to meet you Position Overview As a Textile Designer/ Graphic Artist at JD Staron, you'll work at the intersection of art, design, and manufacturing. You'll create original rug and carpet concepts, develop custom client presentations, prepare production-ready artwork, and collaborate closely with our Creative Director, sales team, mills, and manufacturing partners. From initial inspiration to final installation, you'll play a key role in bringing extraordinary flooring concepts to life.
Key Responsibilities:
Custom Project Renderings Create original rug and carpet designs for residential, hospitality, corporate, and commercial projects. Translate client inspiration, sketches, mood boards, and architectural concepts into compelling textile designs. Develop colorways, pattern repeats, textures, gradients, and construction concepts. Present design options through polished visual renderings and client-facing presentations. Product Development Prepare production-ready artwork and technical specifications for domestic and international manufacturing partners. Create detailed CADs, weave maps, color references, and construction instructions. Collaborate with mills to ensure design intent is maintained throughout sampling and production. Review strike-offs, samples, and revisions to ensure quality and accuracy. Rendering & Visualization Produce high-quality digital renderings that accurately communicate scale, texture, color, and construction. Create room scenes and visual presentations that help clients envision finished installations. Support sales and design teams with custom project visuals. Trend Research & Innovation Research trends in interior design, textiles, fashion, art, architecture, and color forecasting. Explore new constructions, fibers, techniques, and manufacturing capabilities. Contribute ideas for future collections and product launches. Collaboration Work closely with the Creative Director and design team on custom projects and collection development. Partner with sales, marketing, and operations teams throughout project execution. Communicate effectively with domestic and overseas manufacturing partners. Photography & Marketing Support Assist with product photography, sample styling, and creative asset development. Support marketing initiatives including brochures, lookbooks, social media, presentations, and website content. Help maintain the company's digital design and image libraries. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Textile Design, Surface Design, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Interior Design, or a related field. Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Strong understanding of:
Color theory Pattern development Scale and proportion Texture and materiality Repeat construction Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong communication and presentation skills. Portfolio showcasing original design work and creative process. Preferred 2+ years of professional experience in textile, surface pattern, rug, carpet, or product design. Knowledge of woven, tufted, hand-knotted, hand-loomed, and printed textile constructions. Experience creating technical artwork for manufacturing. Product photography experience. Familiarity with interior design and architecture industries.
