We have three major areas of business: weddings/events, floral delivery, and the retail shop . To be considered, please submit your resume, cover letter, and visual portfolio to: theflowercompany01@gmail.com Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, creative, and detail-oriented Floral Designer to join our growing team in Marmora, NJ The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of floral design experience , strong knowledge of flower varieties and floral care, and the ability to create high-quality arrangements that align with The Flower Company aesthetic. This role includes designing floral arrangements for daily orders, retail customers, weddings, events, sympathy work, holidays, and special occasions. This position also includes customer interaction, order taking, POS checkout, email and phone communication, floral production, event setup and breakdown, and general studio support. The ideal candidate is professional, organized, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced floral studio environment. The right candidate should be comfortable working from floral recipes, design boards, photos, inspiration images, and event specifications while also using creative judgment when needed. Applicants must be willing to work non-traditional hours when needed, including scheduled Saturdays when weddings and events are booked, weekend event dates, peak floral seasons, and key floral holidays. Duties & ResponsibilitiesFloral Design & Production Create fresh floral arrangements for daily orders, retail customers, weddings, events, sympathy work, holidays, and special occasions. Follow The Flower Company's design style, brand standards, and quality guidelines. Read and interpret floral recipes, design notes, event orders, design boards, photos, inspiration images, and customer instructions. Prepare, process, hydrate, and care for fresh flowers, greenery, plants, and floral materials. Receive, inspect, and organize incoming floral shipments. Maintain quality control by ensuring floral products are fresh, clean, well-designed, and ready for delivery or pickup. Produce high-quality floral work efficiently and consistently during high-volume periods. Assist with floral production for weddings, events, holidays, and peak business periods. Monitor floral inventory, hardgoods, supplies, vases, containers, and event materials as needed. Clean and sanitize work areas, tools, buckets, vases, and floral storage areas as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient studio work area. Weddings, Events & Customer Service Assist with wedding and event floral design, production, setup, and breakdown. Participate in consultations and customer meetings as needed. Comfortably discuss floral style, color palette, budget, seasonal availability, event needs, and design details with customers. Communicate with customers by phone, email, and in person. Greet customers, answer questions, and help take floral orders. Checkout customers using the POS system. Provide excellent, professional, and courteous customer service. Help resolve customer questions, design details, or order concerns in a calm and professional manner. Studio & Operational Support Open and/or close the shop when scheduled. Assist floral designers and other team members as needed. Help organize, stage, and prepare orders for delivery. Make local deliveries when needed. Comply with a flexible work schedule, including floral holidays, event dates, scheduled Saturdays, and occasional weekend event work. Experience Required Minimum of 2 years of floral design experience . Floral production experience preferred. Customer service experience preferred. Knowledge of flower types, varieties, colors, textures, and seasonal availability. Knowledge of proper flower processing, hydration, storage, temperature awareness, and care. Ability to read and interpret floral recipes, order details, design boards, photos, inspiration images, and event design instructions. Wedding, event, retail floral, or sympathy design experience preferred. Visual portfolio or examples of floral design work required. Portfolio examples may include daily arrangements, weddings, events, sympathy pieces, installations, or custom floral work. Skills:
Floral & Creative Skills Strong floral design ability. Good eye for color, balance, proportion, texture, and composition. Ability to follow established design standards while also using creative judgment. Ability to work from floral recipes, design boards, photos, inspiration images, and event specifications. Ability to produce high-quality floral work efficiently and consistently. Comfortable balancing creative design with production speed, customer expectations, and brand standards. Comfortable designing for retail, events, weddings, sympathy, and custom orders. Customer Service & Communication Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Friendly, professional, and courteous with customers and team members. Comfortable speaking with customers in person, by phone, and by email. Comfortable discussing floral style, color palette, budget, seasonal availability, and event needs with customers. Ability to take detailed orders and understand customer preferences. Strong problem-solving skills. Organizational & Technical Skills Organized and detail-oriented. Able to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Basic computer skills, including word processing, typing, email, data entry, and calendar management. POS system experience preferred. Comfortable using phones, tablets, computers, and order management systems. Physical Requirements This role is active and hands-on. Applicants should be comfortable with the physical demands of a floral studio and event environment. Ability to stand for most of the workday. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, and carry throughout the day. Ability to lift approximately 15-25 lbs. Ability to carry buckets of water. Ability to move large floral pieces, plants, vases, containers, and event materials. Ability to climb ladders at events when needed. Ability to work on your feet for up to 90% of the day. Comfortable working in and around floral coolers and refrigerated storage areas. Comfortable handling perishable floral products that require proper care, hydration, and temperature awareness. Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment during holidays and events. Requirements Must have at least 2 years of floral design experience .
