Job Description
The Role Vaco is working with a client on the northside of Indianapolis (100% in office work schedule) to add a Proposal Designer to their marketing team — a role that sits at the intersection of design and business development. Roughly 70% of this position is dedicated to proposal work: taking content developed by writers and coordinators and transforming it into polished, professional submissions. Think layout-heavy InDesign work — integrating photography, graphics, charts, and brand elements into long-form documents that make a strong impression on clients. The remaining 30% is flexible. Each team member has a specialty area — events, social media, motion graphics, and more — and this person will develop their own niche over time based on strengths and team needs. This is not a role for someone looking to lead brand strategy or push creative boundaries. It's a great fit for a detail-oriented designer who takes pride in making complex content look clean, organized, and compelling — and who genuinely enjoys that kind of work. Key Responsibilities Design and produce proposal layouts using Adobe InDesign — integrating text, photography, graphics, icons, and data visualizations into professional, brand-compliant documents Collaborate closely with proposal coordinators and writers to translate content into visually compelling deliverables Produce other corporate design materials such as flyers, annual reports, presentations, and marketing collateral Support digital design needs including website updates, landing pages, and digital assets Assist with planning and incorporating photography for both print and digital initiatives Review all work for accuracy, brand consistency, and quality before delivery Apply and maintain brand standards across all materials Support motion graphics or animated digital content in collaboration with team members, as needed Contribute to a niche area of the marketing team's work (e.g., social media, events, or other specialty) based on skills and interest What We're Looking For 3+ years of experience in corporate document design, layout, or graphic production — experience with proposals, annual reports, or long-form documents strongly preferred Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign; working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator Background working within established brand standards and producing high-volume, production-style design work Comfortable working on a PC (Windows-based environment) Experience with both print production and basic digital publishing workflows Familiarity with Figma, Adobe XD, or similar UI tools is a plus — not required Prior experience at an architecture, civil engineering, or professional services firm is a plus Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or related field preferred — equivalent experience considered A portfolio is required; please submit a PDF portfolio or link to online work for consideration
The Ideal Candidate:
This team is looking for someone who shows up curious and engaged — the kind of person who asks questions, digs into the work, and takes pride in the details. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-first attitude matter here. This is not a solo creative role; it's a support-oriented position on a close-knit team that values reliability, follow-through, and positive energy. Why work for this company:
Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance PTO and Holiday pay Dollar-for-dollar 401(k) match — one of the strongest retirement benefits in the market Structured professional development program — your growth path is mapped out with your manager, not left to chance Stable, established company with a track record of long-tenured employees Collaborative team culture with a manager who is invested in her team's success
