Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Graphic Designer/Desktop Publisher is responsible for performing a variety of functions in compliance with job specifications and company quality standards to ensure overall customer satisfaction and service. Produces pre-press graphics and text to job specifications/requirements. The Graphic Designer executes design, layout and typesetting projects accurately and effectively. The Graphic Designer schedules all work to meet customer timeframe requirements and works closely with other staff members to exceed customer satisfaction and service. As the Graphic Designer/Desktop Publisher and a member of the Production Team, you are accountable for meeting the department production and quality goals, as well as playing a key role in meeting company wide profitability and customer satisfaction goals:- Guarantee satisfaction and value for our customers.

Responsibilities and Duties:
General and Administrative- Coordinate with Production Team to produce and prioritize jobs, and when necessary reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.
- Comply with all OSHA safety requirements.
- Participate as a key player in the Production Team by supporting operations as needed.
- Communicate effectively with General Manager/Owner, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that both sales and client objectives are met. Graphic Design/Desktop Publishing
- Perform all design and desktop publishing job orders according to work order/job ticket requirements.
- Operate DTP equipment (PC), scanner, laser and color printers, as needed.
- Make backups on a regular basis and organize files for safekeeping and for easy retrieval.
- Interface with the Customer Service Representative and the customer to understand job requirements and ensure all design work is approved prior to creating plates or forwarding for printing or copying.
- Provide customers with proofs and see that proof deadlines are met.
- Coordinate with copy and press operators to ensure that DTP work meets their expectations and requirements.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized Graphics/Desktop Publishing area.
- Receive and manipulate files electronically. Equipment and Supplies
- Clean and maintain equipment and work area.
- Monitor and manage inventory of design and graphics supplies; order and stock supplies as assigned by supervisor.
- Inform supervisor of equipment problems.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years education in graphic design and advertising.
- Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in graphic design.
- Minimum of 1 year of print production experience (Preferred).
- Comprehensive background, understanding, and experience with PC and software applications, such as: Microsoft Office, Acrobat, Microsoft Publisher, Illustrator, or Corel Draw, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of PDF and postscript files and PDF plug-ins.
- General knowledge of utility programs such as file compression, disk repair, print spoolers.
- Ability to send files on the image setter, high-speed digital copiers and color copiers.
- Ability to move freely throughout the building to gather information, materials and authorizations.
- Meet or exceed minimum test results as specified by hiring manager.
Working Conditions:
- Intensive computer work and extended use of the computer keyboard and mouse.
- Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder.
- Work area may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
- Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
- Fast-paced environment, subject to numerous schedule and priority changes.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day.
