BS in mechanical engineering or related degree, 5+ years experience in Product Design, Sheet Metal / Plastic forming design. Solidworks, FEA, DFMPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Product Design Engineer to lead mechanical product development from concept through production. The role focuses on creating robust, manufacturable mechanical designs using SolidWorks and proven engineering practices, supporting prototyping, validation, and continuous improvement to deliver high-quality products on schedule. The ideal candidate will balance creative problem-solving with practical DFM considerations across metals and plastics and work closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and product management.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop detailed mechanical designs and 3D models using SolidWorks, producing finished drawings, BOMs, and release documentation.

Drive product development through concept, prototyping, testing, validation, and transfer to production while meeting cost, performance, and schedule targets.

Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles for sheet metal, plastic parts, injection-molded components, and formed parts.

Perform engineering analysis including basic FEA, tolerance stack-ups, and stress/thermal assessments to validate designs.

Create and support prototypes, lab testing, and field validation activities; iterate designs based on test data and feedback.

Collaborate with manufacturing, industrial engineering, and suppliers to resolve production issues, optimize processes, and ensure scalable manufacturing.

Work with cross-functional teams on requirements for ventilation systems, fans, HVAC components, or other system-level integration when applicable.

Implement continuous improvement practices such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools to reduce cost and lead time while improving quality.

Prepare and maintain technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and product lifecycle records to support regulatory and quality needs.

Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for in-field issues and provide engineering change recommendations and documentation.

RequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field5+ years of experience in mechanical or product design, preferably in a manufacturing environmentStrong proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD softwareProven experience creating and interpreting technical drawings and engineering documentationSolid understanding of DFM principlesFamiliarity with prototyping techniques and 3D modelingWorking knowledge of materials and their application in product designStrong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skillsExcellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teamsNice to HaveExperience with sheet metal, plastics, injection molding, thermoforming, plastic forming, HVAC components and ventilation systems, fans, FEA, DFM, product lifecycle management, industrial engineering, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, prototyping, and product design tools and workflows.
