Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Exterior Trim Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of exterior trim systems for world-class vehicles, ensuring high standards in styling, functionality, quality, and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate is proactive, fast-learning, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced engineering environment.Key Responsibilities:
Lead or support the design, packaging, engineering release, and launch of exterior trim components Develop innovative exterior systems with a focus on quality, durability, functionality, weight, and cost Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design studios and vehicle engineering Ensure all designs align with overall vehicle performance and aesthetic goals Utilize advanced engineering tools and methodologies for product development Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and production launch activitiesRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field 2+ years of experience in vehicle exterior trim design and development Hands-on experience in areas such as: Side valences Sill trims Underbody aero shields Wheelhouse liners Spoilers / appliques Frunk components Rocker panels Proficiency in CAD tools, preferably CATIA V5 or V6 Knowledge of thermoplastics, thermoset materials, and Class A surface manufacturing processes Understanding of engineering analysis and computational tools Experience supporting product launch activitiesPreferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in plastics design and exterior systems Strong knowledge of: Class A surfaces Aero features and lighting integration Tooling and manufacturing processes Fit & finish (gap and flush) Thermal expansion and structural design Paint processes and color matching Strong 3D problem-solving and creative engineering skills Excellent teamwork and communication abilities High level of ownership and strong work ethicSimilar jobs in Newark, CA
