Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, product design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes. 5 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks. Experience with the design of plastic and metal components, printed circuit boards/flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs/FPCBs), and acoustics used in consumer electronic products.
Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree in mechanical engineering, product design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience in consumer product design. Experience managing the shipping of consumer products. Experience with technologies used in consumer products (e.g., plastic injection molding, sheet metal, extrusion, die casting). Experience with the smartphone product category and landscape. Experience in 3D CAD using NX. About the job As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture. The Google Pixel product group focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful software and hardware experiences. Our Advanced Architecture team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices by developing some of the most advanced designs, materials, manufacturing techniques, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google's Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Pixel hardware to create transformative experiences for users around the world. As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you will be laying the groundwork for our future Pixel products. You will work closely with Product Management (PM), Industrial Design (ID), and our leadership team on new product definitions. You will have the technical experience to discuss engineering trade-offs across multiple disciplines including antennas, cameras, sensors, displays, and batteries. You will partner with our global product engineering teams as they bring these future products to market offering ongoing support and bringing lessons learned back into the definition process of next-generation Pixel devices. Responsibilities Design new consumer products in consultation with structural and thermal simulation teams to deliver reliable product layouts. Select materials and finishes to balance product requirements such as cost, reliability, and antenna performance. Prototype design options to converge on an implementation for new products. Advocate for new technology and materials development that offer benefits to future product layouts. Communicate updates to leadership throughout the organization and build consensus around paths forward, promoting cross-functional teams on the product and solving technical problems.
