Qualifications and Experience Position Summary/Description:
The FastTraCS service within the NC TraCS Institute focuses on identifying, supporting, and advancing the commercialization of translational research. The NC TraCS Institute is funded by the National Institutes of Health through the Clinical and Translational Science Award ( CTSA ) Program, a five-year, $58 million grant dedicated to improving the health of North Carolinians. The Industrial Designer will cultivate and leverage relationships with clinicians, staff, and researchers across the UNC Health system to identify unmet medical needs and develop patient-centered solutions. Working closely with the FastTraCS team, this role will help prioritize opportunities and rapidly design, prototype, test, and validate innovative concepts. The ideal candidate will have experience in design thinking, human factors, CAD / CAM , rapid prototyping, and 3D printing, along with familiarity with medical device regulations and quality systems ( ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820) and design for manufacturability. The NC TraCS Institute is hiring a full-time Industrial Designer who will collaborate closely with FastTraCS staff. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong teamwork, an intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial mindset, and excellent relationship management skills.
Education and Experience:
Excellent organizational and verbal interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently. Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with medical device innovation processes, including BioDesign.
Essential Skills:
The ideal candidate will have experience in design thinking, human factors, CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing, along with familiarity with medical device regulations and quality systems (ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820) and design for manufacturability.
