Job Description

Americhem is a globally recognized designer and manufacturer of custom color masterbatch, functional additives, engineered compounds and performance technologies. We are seeking a motivated Designer I to join our Design Lab team. This role is responsible for creating formulations that meet customer specifications by applying established technology protocols and design principles. The Designer I will work closely with senior designers, project coordinators, sales teams, and laboratory leadership to develop innovative solutions that meet customer requirements while supporting quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives. ResponsibilitiesCreate product formulations that meet customer specifications using established design rules and technology protocolsSupport product development projects under the direction of senior design team membersUtilize product design software and laboratory systems to document formulations, testing results, and project activitiesOperate laboratory equipment and perform testing required to evaluate product performance and qualityFollow project prioritization processes to ensure timely completion of assigned work and communicate project risks or delays as neededCollaborate with internal teams to ensure successful product development throughout the product lifecycleBuild strong working relationships with technical, quality, and commercial team membersSupport technology development initiatives by identifying gaps and assisting with the development of new design protocols and testing methodsAuthor technical reports and document process changes, observations, and test resultsParticipate in training and professional development activitiesFollow all quality system requirements, safety protocols, and continuous improvement initiatives QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredBachelor's degree in a science-related field preferred3-5 years of experience in product design, quality testing, technical laboratory work, or related roles; degree holders with limited experience will also be consideredLaboratory experience in plastics, color, paints, inks, custom compounding, or similar industries preferredAbility to pass the Farnsworth Munsell 100 Hue Test used to detect color vision deficiencyProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and ExcelIntermediate to advanced mathematical skills, including algebra and statisticsAbility to learn color matching systems and product design softwareOccasional travel may be required Desired Qualities/AttributesExceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skillsHighly motivated and self-drivenStrong organizational and documentation skillsAbility to manage projects from inception through completionStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesContinuous improvement mindset with a focus on quality and operational excellenceAbility to work effectively in a team-oriented laboratory environmentCommitment to maintaining safe and organized work practices
