BASIC PURPOSE
Montgomery County Community College is searching for a part time Industrial Maintenance Mechanic instructor to teach our IMM certificate program. If you have spent years keeping plant equipment running, we want to hear from you.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate and teach best practices for safe industrial maintenance work including Lockout/Tagout, confined space awareness, and respirator use. Teach students the theory and practice of mechanical maintenance including pumps, bearings, shaft alignment, piping, pneumatics, hydraulics, and rotating equipment. Deliver awareness-level instruction on electrical fundamentals, motor controls, VFDs, and PLC I/O concepts using MCCC-provided lab guides and demo kits. Instructors may be engaged to lead specific program phases based on their strongest area. Demonstrate, conduct, and supervise practical labs using college equipment, simulators, and demonstration kits. Cover topics including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, work order documentation (CMMS), and shop safety. Evaluate student performance in the class. Partner with industry advisory group to continue to improve and align instruction to industry needs. Serve as a reference for students seeking employment with regional employers. Partner with Workforce Division to help plan and implement additional industrial courses and/or contract training with regional employers. Help maintain training labs as safe and organized work areas.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS
Hands-on industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, chemical, pharma, or similar industrial settings. Hands-on Lockout/Tagout familiarity. If you have performed LOTO in the field, you can teach it. Prior instructional experience is desirable but can be waived for experienced professionals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of mechanical maintenance experience. Mechanical depth is the primary requirement; working exposure to electrical is welcomed but full electrician credentials are not required. Exposure to CMMS or work order systems in a shop lead or supervisor capacity. OSHA 10 or any specialty training (welding, pneumatics, hydraulics) is a plus but not required.
