Senior Interior Designer Mill Valley, California | Full-Time About Chambers & Chambers Chambers & Chambers is an award-winning architecture and interior design firm specializing in exceptional custom residential projects throughout California and beyond. Our work is rooted in timeless design, thoughtful detailing, and close collaboration with our clients, consultants, craftspeople, and builders. As our interiors department continues to grow, we are seeking a Senior Interior Designer / FF&E Lead to help shape the creative direction of our projects and lead the interior design and furnishings process from concept through installation. This is a leadership role for a highly creative, client-facing designer who is passionate about exceptional residential design and enjoys collaborating closely with architects, consultants, and project teams to bring thoughtfully designed environments to life. Position Summary The Senior Interior Designer will lead the design and FF&E scope for custom residential projects from concept through installation. This individual will be responsible for developing design concepts, selecting interior finishes and materials, directing the FF&E program, presenting to clients, and maintaining the overall design vision throughout the life of a project. Working closely with the Senior Interior Architect, this role will help shape the interior environment by leading finish selections, decorative lighting, plumbing fixtures, furniture, textiles, accessories, and custom furnishings. The Senior Interior Designer will ensure that design intent is successfully integrated into the architectural documentation and ultimately executed in the field. The ideal candidate combines strong design sensibility with technical knowledge, excellent client communication skills, and extensive experience managing FF&E and interior finish selections for high-end residential projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Interior Design Leadership
  • Lead projects from concept through installation
  • Develop design concepts, mood boards, presentations, and material palettes
  • Create thoughtful, highly detailed interior environments aligned with the firm's design philosophy
  • Present design solutions and recommendations to clients
  • Maintain design integrity throughout all phases of a project
  • Mentor and support junior team members FF&E Leadership
  • Lead the FF&E design and specification process across multiple projects
  • Develop furniture plans and furnishing concepts
  • Select and specify furniture, decorative lighting, decorative plumbing fixtures, textiles, rugs, accessories, art, and custom furnishings
  • Coordinate with vendors, fabricators, artisans, and consultants
  • Review shop drawings, strike-offs, finish samples, and prototypes
  • Collaborate with purchasing and procurement teams to ensure successful project execution
  • Participate in installation planning and on-site styling efforts Interior Finishes & Material Development
  • Lead selection and specification of:
  • Stone and tile
  • Wood flooring and millwork finishes
  • Paint and wallcoverings
  • Decorative plumbing fixtures
  • Hardware and specialty finishes
  • Develop cohesive material palettes that support the overall design vision
  • Review and approve samples, mockups, and finish submissions Collaboration with
Interior Architecture:
  • Partner closely with the Senior Interior Architect throughout the design process
  • Coordinate finish selections and design intent with construction documentation
  • Collaborate on space planning, kitchens, bathrooms, and architectural detailing
  • Review plans, elevations, millwork details, and drawing packages to ensure consistency with the design vision
  • Participate in consultant coordination, site visits, and construction administration activities
Client & Project Leadership:
  • Serve as a primary client contact throughout the design process
  • Lead client presentations, design reviews, and material presentations
  • Build trusted client relationships through clear communication and thoughtful design leadership
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and design deliverables
  • Coordinate closely with architects, contractors, consultants, and project teams
Qualifications Required:
  • Degree or Masters in Interior Design/Interior Architecture
  • 10+ years of professional interior design experience
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating high-end residential design work
  • Experience leading projects from concept through installation
  • Extensive knowledge of interior finishes, furnishings, materials, and custom detailing
  • Exceptional presentation and client communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of luxury residential project delivery
  • Proficiency in
AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace Preferred:
  • Hospitality design experience
  • Experience leading FF&E programs for luxury residential or hospitality projects
  • Revit experience or willingness to learn
  • Experience with Studio Designer, Design Spec, or similar project management and specification platforms
  • Understanding of procurement, purchasing, and installation processes

From $120,000.00 per year
