General position summary:
The Interior Designer
  • Seasonal will support the design team with space planning, furniture layouts, specifications, presentation materials, and project coordination for commercial office furniture and systems products.
This internship provides hands-on exposure to the workplace interiors industry while assisting with customer space requirements, sales support, and project documentation under the guidance of experienced design professionals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Consult with sales team on the layout, design and space planning of furniture specifications for client offices. Travel to client's location to field measure layout. Perform programming, space planning, furniture selection, layout, product pricing, design and selection of fabrics and finishes, including as
  • built drawings, block plans, space plans and finished working drawings for specification and installation. Material & Color Selections
Furniture:
Research, Selection & Specifications. Accurately apply applicable discounts and create quotes for client's approval. Provides professional customer interface by attending client planning meetings to determine furniture needs and develops solutions to meet these needs. Offers technical design and creative consultation to customers by answering both routine and highly specialized questions regarding furniture systems. Coordinate, develop, and review proposed project designs and construction plans. Prepare presentation material including color finish boards. Review job site in order to perform accurate measurements. Will do plan-to-site adherence checks. Validate plans against construction, electrical engineering and Architect & Design (A&D) drawing sets. Develop project specifications, double check specifications against plans, verify specifications against plans, assure specifications are ready for order entry (CAP/SIF file), and manage changes and revisions. Prepare installation drawings for field personnel. Coordinate electrical locations. Provide on-site job inspections comparing construction drawings to final build-out. Work with installers to ensure installation meets customer specifications; complete punchlists
Job Skills Required:
Experience with product knowledge, furniture design and furniture specification software
  • CAP Knowledge in space planning, typical development and input of systems furniture layouts into AutoCAD via, CAP (20/20) or other relevant specification tools Working knowledge of applicable building codes, ADA regulations Computer literate (AutoCAD 2014-16, Cap2020, Giza, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop and SketchUp).
Strong customer service skills with a desire to go above & beyond to assist others. Good verbal and written communication skills. Detail Oriented and ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to multi-task, prioritize & initiate action in a timely manner. Ability to demonstrate initiative and to work with minimum supervision

Education & Experience:
Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, a degree program in Interior Design, Architecture, Space Planning, Commercial Design, or a related field preferred. Prior internship, classroom, project, or portfolio experience in office furniture, interiors, or workplace design is helpful but not required. Interest in commercial interiors, systems furniture, customer interaction, and project coordination is preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and understand general business correspondence, product information, technical procedures, and project documentation. Ability to communicate clearly with team members, managers, clients, vendors, and installers in a professional manner.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Operations:
To perform this internship successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Exposure to Auto
CAD, CAP
2020, CET, Giza, Photoshop, SketchUp, or similar design tools is preferred but not required.

Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize as situations and needs change throughout the workday Ability to multi-task and organize workflow to manage daily responsibilities, meet deadlines and prioritize work
