Job Description
Founding Interior Designer / Director of Design About the Opportunity We're an innovative, results driven, relationship focused real estate development firm that is creative, fast growing and nationally recognized. Our work spans high quality apartment and independent senior living communities across the country, ranging from affordable to luxury. Our firm is launching a new in-house interior design group and we're looking for a founding designer to build and lead it from day one. This is not a traditional design role. This is a rare opportunity to skip years of climbing the ladder and step directly into building and running your own design group — backed by an award winning and highly experienced and established development company with a guaranteed pipeline of projects and revenue from day one. What You'll Do You'll be responsible for elevating the design vision across all developments while building the design group into a fully scaled, in-house design operation. Design Leadership Collaborate with the developers and third- party architects shaping the inspiration and vision for each development, both interior and exterior. Create cohesive, elevated design concepts that raise the bar higher with each project Partner with the in-house developers and 3rd party architects on selecting interior and exterior finishes, materials, and overall aesthetic direction Furniture, Art & Styling Select and source furniture, artwork, and décor for common areas and amenity spaces Create warm, welcoming, and quality environments across all communities Own the full design story—from concept through final installation Execution & Delivery Coordinate procurement, logistics, and installation of all design elements Oversee final detailing to ensure every project is turnkey-ready for residents Maintain high standards of quality, consistency, and budget alignment Build the Business Help launch and grow the in-house design group Initially collaborate with development firms current third-party design partners on projects where internal capacity is still developing Gradually transition all interior design scope in-house Hire and lead a growing design team over time Future Expansion Develop sourcing strategies for materials, lighting, fixtures, and finishes Partner with in-house and 3rd party construction teams (depending on project) to implement designs Build vendor relationships and drive purchasing efficiencies Expand the design group's scope across all aspects of development design Why This Role Is Different Day 1 pipeline — No need to chase clients or revenue Entrepreneurial without the risk — Build a firm without financial exposure Creative control — Shape the look and feel of entire communities across the United States Scale at your pace — Grow the workload, team and scope as you're ready Direct impact — Your work will shape the experience of thousands of residents This is a unique opportunity to run your own design firm within a development company with real resources, real projects, and real momentum. Who We're Looking For You have a strong eye for design and are passionate about it. You're not just a designer — you're a builder. 2-8+ years of interior design experience (single family, multifamily, hospitality, or commercial) Passion and Strong eye for design, materials, and spatial storytelling Experience sourcing furniture, finishes, and artwork preferred Highly organized with ability to manage multiple projects and timelines Entrepreneurial mindset — excited to build something from scratch and willing to do anything attitude to get it done Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams (developers, architects, vendors) Passion for creating intentional, cohesive, and memorable spaces, and pushing the development and construction teams to new levels of design, quality and product Compensation & Growth Competitive salary + performance-based upside with profit sharing from design group Unlimited growth potential across project volume, scope, material sourcing and more.
