Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract An exciting opportunity awaits skilled Sign Language Interpreters seeking a contract position in a dynamic educational environment near Fort Smith, AR. Two full-time roles are available, each dedicated to supporting a middle school student in a 1:1 setting. Interpreters will play a vital part in enhancing the student's daily classroom experience and facilitating communication in various educational activities throughout the academic year, running from August to May.
Key Qualifications:
Valid interpreter license in the state Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally within school settings Bilingual skills strongly preferred for one of the positions Demonstrated proficiency in both American Sign Language and spoken English Ability to commit to a full-time schedule (37.5 hours weekly) for the entire academic year Strong interpersonal aptitude with the flexibility to support students across different environments
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide clear and accurate interpreting services for a middle school student during all class activities, assignments, and school events Foster effective communication and understanding between the student, peers, and staff Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in every interaction Collaborate with educators, administrators, and families to ensure accommodations are met and student needs are prioritized Modify interpreting approach as needed to meet the evolving needs of the student You'll enjoy a consistent, full-time schedule within the school day, the chance to truly impact a student's educational journey, and a supportive work culture focused on collaboration and growth.
