The Medical Interpreter will work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and social services, providing interpretation services that uphold confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Responsibilities Provide real-time interpretation between healthcare professionals and patients in multiple languages, including American Sign Language (ASL), ensuring precise understanding of medical information. Translate written documents such as medical records, consent forms, and patient instructions accurately while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Assist with interpretation during medical examinations, consultations, procedures, and social work interactions to facilitate effective communication. Review and interpret documentation related to patient histories, treatment plans, and social services to support comprehensive care delivery. Support hospital staff by translating complex medical terminology into accessible language for patients and their families. Maintain detailed records of interpreted sessions, ensuring documentation review aligns with organizational standards and legal requirements. Collaborate with social workers, child protective services, and other healthcare professionals to ensure culturally sensitive communication tailored to each patient's needs. Requirements Multilingual proficiency with fluency in at least two languages; certification or demonstrated experience in interpretation preferred. Strong translation skills with the ability to interpret spoken language accurately across diverse medical contexts. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable for effective communication with deaf or hard-of-hearing patients. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times. Familiarity with medical terminology across various specialties including hospital procedures, medical records management, and social work practices. Bilingual abilities that enhance communication with diverse patient populations from different cultural backgrounds. Excellent communication skills combined with cultural sensitivity to foster trust and understanding between patients and providers. Experience working within hospital environments or healthcare settings is preferred; familiarity with child protective services or social work is a plus. Ability to review documentation thoroughly and accurately interpret complex information under pressure.
