Freelance Interpreter - Connecticut

Position Overview Language Link Corp., based in Branford, Connecticut, is seeking independent freelance interpreters interested in pursuing court interpreter certification. This is a 1099 contractor opportunity that offers flexible scheduling and assignments delivered in person, by phone, and via video. This role is ideal for bilingual professionals who want to expand their experience across legal, healthcare, and corporate environments while receiving guidance toward court certification. About the Role As an independent contract interpreter, you will facilitate clear and accurate communication between parties who speak different languages. You will serve as a cultural and linguistic bridge, ensuring messages are conveyed faithfully, professionally, and confidentially. Assignments may take place in courtrooms, medical facilities, social service agencies, and business settings. We also mentor and support interpreters who are preparing to take the court interpreter certification exam. Required Qualifications Fluency in English and at least one additional language Strong verbal communication skills in both languages Cultural awareness and the ability to interpret with sensitivity and neutrality Excellent listening, memory retention, and note-taking abilities Professional demeanor and strict adherence to confidentiality standards Ability to adapt to different legal and professional environments Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in interpretation (not mandatory) Familiarity with legal or medical terminology Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience Key Responsibilities Deliver precise and complete interpretation services in healthcare settings to support communication between patients and providers Apply knowledge of medical terminology and privacy regulations (including HIPAA) to maintain accuracy and confidentiality Work collaboratively with healthcare staff, social workers, and other professionals to ensure effective communication Assist with reviewing and handling documentation in accordance with industry standards and compliance requirements
