Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Bring your expertise in sign language interpreting to an engaging educational setting and help foster inclusive communication for students. This contract opportunity begins in August 2026 and extends through the school year, offering a chance to make a meaningful difference on campus. Assignments will be full-time (37.5 hours per week), primarily on-site, supporting the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The caseload and campus assignments will be finalized soon as budgets are confirmed, with interviews anticipated as early as next week.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language (ASL), Interpreting, or a related field National certification such as Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) NIC or the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Experience interpreting in a school, educational, or similar youth environment is highly valued Strong command of ASL and excellent interpersonal communications skills Ability to adapt interpreting style to meet student needs across varying age groups Readiness to complete the district's onboarding and credentialing process, including submission of employment documentation and timesheet protocols
Key Responsibilities:
Provide on-site sign language interpreting and/or transliteration services within assigned school settings Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and parents to support social and academic integration Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting practices within the educational environment Collaborate with educational teams to ensure all students have access to instructional materials and campus activities Complete documentation, timesheets, and required district onboarding tasks promptly This is a fantastic opportunity to grow professionally while making a tangible impact in the lives of students.
