Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make an immediate impact supporting students in the classroom as a contracted Sign Language Interpreter. This role is essential for facilitating communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing students throughout a school district near Tavares, FL. Start dates are set for August, and there is a high probability that interviews will be scheduled as soon as next week, pending budget approval. What you'll need: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language (ASL), Interpreting, or a related field National certification, such as NIC (National Interpreter Certification) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or BEI credential Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational setting Ability to complete time-sensitive credentialing, including the district's specific onboarding and documentation Excellent interpersonal, communication, and interpretation skills Flexibility to work on-site, assigned to one or more schools (assignments and caseload TBD) What you'll do: Interpret classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and school events for students and staff Collaborate with teachers, special education professionals, and administrators to ensure accessibility Support students ranging from primary through secondary grade levels (specific caseloads to be determined) Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district protocols Assist with written translations as needed What's in it for you: Contract runs from August through late May, following the academic calendar Full-time schedule: 37.5 hours per week, typical 8 hour days with a 30-minute unpaid break Opportunity to contribute to an inclusive learning environment District-led onboarding ensures a smooth start and full support throughout your assignment The chance to build meaningful connections with students and school teams Don't miss this chance to play a crucial role in students' educational experience.
