Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a dynamic educational environment and make a meaningful impact as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting a vibrant 7th grade student who is completely deaf and has limited vision. This full-time, contract opportunity is situated near the picturesque Toccoa, GA area and offers the chance to collaborate closely with a dedicated classroom team in a self-contained setting. As the student's primary 1:1 interpreter, your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) will empower them to access classroom instruction, participate in class activities, and connect with their peers. Your positive, engaging personality will not only enhance the student's experience but will also contribute to the supportive and collaborative spirit among teachers and staff.
What You'll Bring:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL); experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings. Ability to effectively communicate and adapt to meet both auditory and visual needs of the student. Outgoing, compassionate approach with a passion for promoting inclusion and student success. Professionalism and flexibility to thrive in a self-contained classroom environment.
Your Responsibilities:
Provide tailored, 1:1 ASL interpretation for a 7th grade student throughout the school day. Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and school personnel to facilitate communication and understanding. Adapt interpreting style as needed to accommodate both deafness and poor vision. Maintain accurate and confidential records related to student interaction and progress. Foster a positive, approachable atmosphere that encourages active participation and learning.
