QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent. 2. At least two years of increasingly responsible translating experience and/or training equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in the Spanish language or a related field. 3. Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish and English fluently (includes excellent grammar, sentence structure, spelling, pronunciation, punctuation, vocabulary and comprehension skills). 4. Knowledge of technical terminology used by psychologists, speech therapists, nurses and other specialists. 5. Proficient knowledge of computers and software programs (specifically MS Office suite). 6. Ability to work with linguistically and culturally diverse public.
JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Translate a wide variety of written district-wide communications from English to Spanish and vice versa (including newsletters, bulletins, forms, letters, menus, legislative bills, memoranda, notices, teaching materials, and some new curriculum adoptions when approved by the company or publisher). 2. Provide translation of technical terminology used by psychologists, speech therapists, certified school nurse, and other district personnel. 3. Communicate with a wide variety of district administrators, specialists, faculty and other staff to provide translation as needed. 4. Develop and revise forms and other communications for Spanish speaking parents and students. 5. Maintain confidentiality of privileged information obtained in the course of work. 6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 7. Assist with the set-up of various Bilingual Department meetings as needed. 8. Greet visitors and students, provides appropriate information or assistance, or refers to appropriate staff. 9. Answer incoming telephone calls, provides appropriate information or take message and refers to appropriate staff. 10. Safeguard confidential information as specified in the Illinois School Code. 11. Perform any other assigned duties by the supervisor or designee.
