JOB ID:
4986 1. High School diploma or equivalent. 2. Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). 3. Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate preferred. 4. Excellent organizational skills. 5. Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. 6. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 7. Ability to manage multiple priorities. 8. Ability to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse public.
JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Accurately interpret lectures, discussions, announcements, conversations, meetings, events, and other spoken word situations lectures, discussions, announcements and other activities at an appropriate language level for the individual students using manual sign system appropriate for the language and the cultural background of hearing impaired students. 2. Measures to check comprehension will follow at appropriate intervals. 3. Monitor the academic, language comprehension and social/emotional progress of the students with hearing impairments in the mainstream setting. 4. Keep teacher(s) informed of student progress and/or problems. 5. Function as an integral part of the total educational program, providing support services to the other members of the hearing-impaired staff in the areas of material construction and classroom management. 6. Provides information and orientation to students with hearing impairments in emergency situations. 7. Works effectively in teams with other sign language interpreters. 8. Utilize technologies to transcribe speech to text in classroom and other settings. 9. Exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices; follow and implement all district rules, regulations, practices and policies. 10. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas. 11. Participate in / attend building and district meetings, as required. 12. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district. 13. Direct and supervise students, implement MTSS, and maintain and document discipline both in and out of the classroom during the assigned workday. 14. Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be requested by the principal or designee.
