Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter supporting a high school student one-on-one for both this summer and the upcoming academic year. This full-time contract position is based approximately 20 miles south of Chicago, offering a chance to make a meaningful difference while working closely with an engaged student community. You will play an integral role in helping a high school student access learning and participate fully in classroom activities. As a valued interpreter, you'll collaborate with educators and support staff in a dynamic, inclusive setting and work closely with a dedicated team passionate about student success.
Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings Experience working one-on-one with high school or adolescent students preferred Hold relevant interpreting credentials or certifications (such as EIPA, RID, or state licensure) Comfortable navigating a school environment and adhering to policies and schedules Strong interpersonal skills and a proven commitment to fostering inclusion for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing studentsResponsibilities:
Provide clear, accurate interpretation services between spoken English and ASL for a high school student during classes and school functions Support communication in academic, social, and extracurricular settings Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure effective accommodation Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times Adapt interpreting strategies to meet specific classroom needs and individual preferencesBenefits:
