Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact by supporting the educational journey of a student as a Sign Language Interpreter. This contract opportunity involves working closely with one student, ensuring accessible communication and fostering an inclusive learning environment. The position is set for the 2026-2027 school year and offers a consistent full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week.
Qualifications and Experience:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) Valid state or national certification for educational interpreting (such as EIPA or RID) Experience working as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a school or educational setting Ability to accurately interpret spoken language into sign, and vice versa, adapting to a student's individual communication needs Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families Understanding of confidentiality, ethics, and professionalism in a school environment
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation for a student during classroom instruction and school activities Facilitate clear and effective communication between the student, peers, and school personnel Support the student's participation in academic and extracurricular activities Adapt interpretation techniques as required by classroom content and student needs Work collaboratively with educational staff to support the student's IEP goals and progress Maintain accurate records and participate in meetings regarding the student's educational plan as needed
