SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY
The Translation Services Specialist is responsible for using their knowledge of two or more languages (including Haitian) and cultural meanings to translate texts from one language to another. In a fast-paced work environment, their duties include determining meaning of school and district communications to complete translations within set deadlines or review documents and translate them word-for-word with accuracy. They will also be responsible for revising already-translated documents to reflect current policies or other information changes as part of the IPS Service Center team. This specialist will also assist with incoming phone calls to the Service Center.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like. Core Duties and Responsibilities Reading original documents and translating them Proof reading and editing existing translated documents Translating presentations, official announcements, and external communications Providing translation services for IPS school personnel and central office staff upon request Providing on-site translation for Service Center call staff as needed Being sensitive to the culture of the original languages and the target languages during the translation process to ensure consistent use of language across all documents for the district Keeping up to date on preferred use of language in the education field by connecting with other bilingual staff (both internal and external) Answering incoming phone calls to support the Service Center "Day in the Life" Overview On a regular day, as the Translation Services Specialist, you might: Translate a PTA presentation from English to Haitian for a school principal Translate a Board resolution in preparation for IPS Board of Commissioners Action Session Collaborate with Graphic Design and Document Specialists to create new district communication materials Review, edit, and translate a community partner presentation for the Executive Leadership Team Screen and route the appropriately translated materials according to content of communications (routing duties require general knowledge of organizational operations and individual staff members' assignments and status of work) Maintain and update translation vocabulary database Other duties as assigned

As an ideal candidate for this role, you must have the following skills: Fluent in written and verbal translation skills in two or more languages (including Haitian) Skilled use of dictionaries and thesauruses to find the exact words Expert in using Translation Memory software Stellar time management skills to complete documents/projects on time Understanding of different cultures for translations Compassion and expertise in working with people from different cultural backgrounds and identities Exemplary customer service skills working with internal and external stakeholders Stronger work ethic, pride, and enthusiasm to ensure all communications reflect the standards and mission of
IPS EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Associate's Degree (A.A.) in Business Administration, Secretarial Sciences or equivalent from a university, two-year college or technical school, OR three to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of basic word processing software and/or tools
