Job Description

Step into history as a Cowtown Interpreter, where you'll transport visitors to the 19th century through immersive storytelling, dynamic demonstrations, and engaging interactions. This seasonal role offers a unique opportunity to bring the past to life, educating and entertaining guests with vivid historical interpretations. As a key part of the visitor experience, you'll answer questions, assist with educational programs, and create memorable moments—all while dressed in period-appropriate attire provided by the museum.

No Union Representation •Posting may come down at any time•Disseminates historical information through role playing, demonstrations and/or interacting with visitors directly Provides information and answers visitor's questions about Museum attractions, events and exhibits. Provides Safety and emergency information to visitors. Assists with education programming for adults and children. Assists in handling emergency situations. Asists with routine custodial and/or grounds maintenance tasks. Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle. These examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other related duties may be assigned as needed. Ability to use the tools, equipment and accessories needed to accurately portray the assigned role(s) Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed to complete work tasks To repetitively bend, twist, stoop, kneel, squat and reach as necessary to complete work tasks Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds Ability to perform the physical activities and skills pertinent to the assigned role(s) Ability to stand and/or walk for most of an assigned shift. Ability to work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions Ability to tolerate airborne environmental nuisances such as and dust or other allergens Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and visitors Ability to communicate orally clearly and effectively Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule from 5 to 35 hours per week, including weekend and some evening work May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. High School Diploma. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship. Preferred Experience and Training One year of retail or customer service experience in an interactive setting. Six months of work or volunteer experience in museums, historical sites, or interpretive programs Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
