Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Are you passionate about supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting? We are seeking experienced Sign Language Interpreters to work full time in schools near the New Orleans area for the upcoming academic year, providing essential access to communication in classroom environments. This role is a contract position running from early August 2026 through late May 2027.
What We're Looking For:
Current and active Louisiana DOE Certification is
REQUIRED
Experience with American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation in a school setting Ability to adapt interpretation to various age groups and educational needs Professionalism, reliability, and strong teamwork skills Willingness to complete a district-required drug screen and fingerprint clearance, in addition to standard credentialing Comfortable covering multiple school sites (assignment details and caseload TBD) Commitment to adhering to the school calendar, with full time hours: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch per day
Core Responsibilities:
Provide effective and accurate ASL interpretation for students in classroom and school activities Foster clear communication between students, teachers, and staff Support student participation and access to educational content Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions Collaborate with teachers and support staff to understand each student's needs Complete required documentation per school and district policy
