Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding role for the 2026-2027 school year utilizing your expertise in American Sign Language to bridge communication and create meaningful learning experiences in a dynamic educational environment near New Iberia, LA. This contract position offers the opportunity to support students and staff members by providing vital sign language interpretation and instruction throughout the academic year. Ideal candidates for this position will have: Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school or educational setting Experience teaching or assisting with ASL instruction preferred Certification as an educational interpreter or recognized interpreting credentials highly valued Ability to accurately interpret spoken English and ASL in real-time within classroom and school-related settings Excellent interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a passion for supporting diverse student populations Key responsibilities include: Facilitating communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and teachers, peers, and school staff Providing interpretation during classroom instruction, assemblies, extracurricular activities, meetings, and school events Supporting teachers by clarifying educational content in ASL and assisting with instructional activities where appropriate Collaborating with special education teams and participating in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as needed Maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to ethical interpreting standards Picture yourself making a difference in the lives of students and contributing to an inclusive, accessible school community.
