The Opportunity:
Whittier Street Health Center is seeking a full-time Medical Interpreter (English/Haitian Creole) to join our team. In this role, you'll facilitate clear, accurate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure safe, high-quality care. You'll support clinical visits through in-person interpretation while helping maintain a welcoming, culturally responsive environment for our diverse community.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide accurate and culturally appropriate interpretation during medical visits Serve as a cultural liaison, communicating relevant social and cultural context Assist with patient registration, financial applications, and appointment scheduling as needed Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations Document interactions in EPIC and communicate patient concerns to providers Participate in conference calls requiring simultaneous interpretation Foster positive working relationships with patients and interdisciplinary teams Support a safe, respectful, and inclusive clinical environment
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred Certification in medical interpreting (CMI, CHI, or equivalent) required Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting Full professional fluency in English and Haitian Creole, including medical terminology Written literacy in English and Haitian Creole strongly preferred Familiarity with registration workflows and insurance eligibility processes Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems (EPIC preferred) Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork skills Join Our Team!
