Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Travel Located in Traverse City, MI, this travel assignment offers the opportunity to support a young student on their educational journey as an American Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time role involves 37.5 hours per week during both the current and next school years, providing critical communication access to a first-grade boy who has experienced severe language deprivation.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide American Sign Language interpretation services in educational settings, ensuring effective communication between the student and educators. Support the student's language development and educational progress by facilitating clear and accurate interpretation in classroom and related environments. Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to promote inclusive learning and accessibility. Uphold confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in interpreting and educational support.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Possession of a minimum 4.0 EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score is preferred. Will consider candidates with a lower EIPA score who are willing to work towards certification under supervision. Experience working with students with severe language deprivation or complex communication needs. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of deaf education practices. Ability to travel and adapt to a dynamic school environment.
