Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A Middle School Sign Language Interpreter position is available in Lillington, NC, supporting a 1:1 classroom setting. This contract role offers the opportunity to provide essential communication assistance for a student, ensuring equal access to education through proficient American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver clear and accurate ASL interpretation for a middle school student during all classroom activities. Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers. Collaborate with educational staff to support the student's learning needs. Maintain confidentiality and follow ethical practices within the educational environment. Participate in meetings and trainings as required to enhance skills and student support.
Qualifications and Experience:
Active Sign Language Interpreter certification or a minimum EIPA score of 3.5 (candidates with slightly lower scores may be considered). Proven ability to interpret ASL in educational settings, preferably with middle school-aged students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for students with hearing impairments. Ability to work onsite full-time at the designated school location.
Location and Schedule:
Position is onsite at a middle school in Lillington, North Carolina. Full-time schedule, 37.5 hours per week.
