Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning Albuquerque, NM Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning, founded in 1979, currently offers an array of training courses and services in adult education, cross-cultural communications, health literacy, pre-employment skills, and interpretation and translation. The Interpreter Network by Spring Institute is a leading provider of interpretation and translation services in Colorado and New Mexico, providing services in 100+ languages. Our greatest need for interpreters are for those who speak Apache, Arabic (female preferred), Keres, Korean, Navajo, Thai, and Vietnamese. $30-$40/hour Reports to: The Interpreter Network Program Manager Position Description Serves as a 'bridge' from one language to another and one culture to another. Provides in- person interpretation services for medical staff and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients and their families who require language assistance. Accurately interprets the content and spirit of communication without adding, omitting or changing the information. Acts in accordance with program policies and procedures, including the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care. Essential Functions Transmits the message in a thorough and faithful manner, considering linguistic variations in both languages and conveying the tone and spirit of the original message Remains unbiased and treats patients equally, with dignity and respect, regardless of race, color, gender, religion, nationality, political persuasion or lifestyle choice Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all personal identifying information related to patients receiving services Discloses any real or perceived conflict of interest that could affect their objectivity Maintains professional behavior during all encounters, which includes being punctual, prepared, and appropriately dressed, as well as being respectful and courteous Demonstrates communication skills and a working knowledge of medical terminology Performs role in accordance with the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care Works well under pressure and is able to remain calm and polite during difficult encounters Demonstrates professional phone and email etiquette and timeliness in responding to requests Establishes and maintains effective and professional working relationships with patients, providers, clients, program staff and the public Identifies and addresses areas for ongoing professional development Qualifications Must be available for in person services in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and neighboring areas Must have reliable transportation High school diploma or equivalent is required Must be able to demonstrate fluency in English and second language Must be comfortable communicating by email and submitting assignment sheets electronically on a regular and consistent basis Experience as a Medical Interpreter strongly preferred Bridging the Gap (BTG) medical interpreter certificate or equivalent is required at the time of hire or within one year Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
