Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful contract opportunity providing sign language interpretation services in a vibrant educational environment near Verdi, NV. This role primarily centers on supporting elementary students, with occasional responsibilities at middle and high schools on an as-needed, itinerant basis. You will work closely with a small caseload, typically serving 1-2 students, ensuring access and engagement in the classroom experience. Ideal candidates possess a depth of experience fostering communication and inclusion in a school setting. You'll collaborate closely with staff and educators to accommodate students' needs and help facilitate their best learning outcomes.
Qualifications:
National Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter EIP score of 3.5 or higher Previous experience in school settings, preferably elementary with some exposure to middle and high school populations Ability to provide services across multiple school sites (itinerant caseload) Comfortable supporting children in both group and one-on-one settings Successful completion of fingerprinting and drug screening
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken communication between staff, students, and parents ensuring accessibility throughout the school day Support and advocate for deaf or hard-of-hearing students within academic and co-curricular activities Adapt interpreting techniques to accommodate a variety of classroom scenarios and student needs Collaborate with educators and related service providers to foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment Maintain professional standards of confidentiality, ethics, and student advocacy This full-time contract (32 hours/week) spans the school year, with flexibility in daily task distribution.
